Local farmers, food vendors, and aspiring market sellers will have an opportunity to sharpen their skills and prepare for the busy market season during an upcoming “Market Ready” workshop hosted by the Tuscaloosa County Extension Office.
The workshop, titled “Market Ready: Licenses, Permits, & Food Safety Basics,” is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa County Extension Office, located at 1800 McFarland Blvd E., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404. The office is situated on the second floor above Tropical Smoothie Cafe.
Led by Roshell Aguilar, Farm & Agribusiness Agent, and Alice Moore, Food Safety Agent, the session will focus on helping participants better understand the requirements and best practices for selling food products. Attendees can expect guidance on obtaining proper licenses and permits, maintaining food safety standards, and applying practical tips backed by ongoing research.
Organizers say the workshop is especially beneficial for individuals planning to participate in local farmers markets this season, offering tools to help vendors operate confidently while also ensuring customer safety.
“This is a new program and a great opportunity to be ready for this year’s farmers markets,” organizers noted.
Participants will also learn strategies to maximize profits and make the most of their summer harvests.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP using the QR code provided on the event flyer or by calling 205-349-4630.
The event is part of ongoing outreach efforts by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System to support local agriculture, small businesses, and community education.
