Stillman Searching for Head Football Coach
Stillman announced in August that football is returning to the historically Black college after the program last competed in 2015. The college said bringing football back is part of a broader effort to strengthen student life, enrollment, alumni engagement and community partnerships. (Stillman College)
Now, the college is searching for the person who will lead the Tigers back onto the field.
According to the job posting, Stillman is seeking a head coach to build the returning program within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and its affiliated conference.
The position will report to the director of athletics, and the coach will be responsible for more than the team’s performance on the field. Stillman describes the coach as a key recruiter and public representative of the college who will help shape the culture of the new program. (Stillman College)
Stillman lists previous collegiate head-coaching experience, experience at an HBCU or faith-affiliated institution, recruiting connections across Alabama and the Southeast, fundraising experience and previous experience building or rebuilding a football program among the qualifications it particularly desires. Stillman’s football history dates back generations. The program returned to campus in 1999 and competed through 2015, with former Tigers eventually reaching both the NFL and Canadian Football League. (Stillman College)
The latest revival comes during Stillman’s 150th anniversary year. When announcing the return of football, Stillman President Dr. Yolanda W. Page said the program would provide an opportunity to reconnect alumni while creating new energy and opportunities for the campus and Tuscaloosa community. (Stillman College)
