Aliceville native Carl Colvin, a 1997 graduate of Aliceville High School, is turning years of hands-on roadside experience into a growing mobile business that’s changing how drivers handle tire problems in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and surrounding areas.
Colvin is the owner of AutoTread Mobile Tire Service, a strictly mobile tire service that brings tire replacement and repair directly to customers—whether they’re at home, at work, or stranded on the roadside. The business offers on-demand service designed to save customers time and eliminate the hassle of visiting a traditional tire shop.
Before launching AutoTread full time, Colvin spent years working with Goodyear Tires, providing roadside assistance until 2006. That experience laid the foundation for his transition into entrepreneurship, though the journey was far from easy.
“I didn’t know a lot at first,” Colvin said. “There was a lot of trial and error. I thought it would just be me, but my family wanted to join the team. I wanted to show them there was an opportunity to grow.”
Today, AutoTread Mobile Tire Service provides a wide range of services, including flat tire repair, new tire installations—such as performance, off-road, and all-season tires—tire balancing, and TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) resets. “Visibility is everything,” Colvin said. “If people don’t know you’re there, they can’t call you. I want people to say, ‘I’ve seen that guy on Facebook—he does tires.’ That’s how the brand grows.”
