Residents interested in starting or improving a home-based food business will have an opportunity to learn the basics of Alabama’s Cottage Food Law during an upcoming safety training session in Greene County.
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will host a Cottage Food Law Safety Training on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Boligee Community Center, located at 17404 County Road 20 in Boligee.
The training is designed to help participants better understand Alabama’s Cottage Food Law, including where certain homemade foods can legally be sold, labeling requirements, and basic food safety practices. Organizers say the session is ideal for individuals who sell or are interested in selling baked goods, jams, cookies, breads, and other approved homemade food items.
Participants will also receive guidance on food safety standards and certification requirements related to operating a cottage food business in Alabama.
The certification fee for the training is $25.
