A longtime West Alabama tradition is set to return this summer as the annual Mule Day/Chickenfest brings a weekend of food, entertainment, and community celebration to downtown Gordo.
Scheduled for Friday, June 5 through Saturday, June 6, 2026, the two-day festival will take place along Main Street, continuing a popular event that draws thousands of visitors to Pickens County each year.
Hosted by the Gordo Area Chamber of Commerce, Mule Day/Chickenfest is known for blending small-town charm with a wide range of activities designed for all ages.
The festivities will kick off Friday evening and continue into Saturday afternoon, featuring live entertainment, food trucks, arts and craft vendors, and family-friendly attractions.
Attendees can expect children’s games and activities, homemade ice cream, and a variety of local and regional vendors set up throughout downtown. A 5K run is also planned as part of the weekend’s events.
One of the highlights of the festival is the annual parade, held on Saturday, which showcases horses, mule-drawn wagons, antique cars, and tractors—paying tribute to the area’s agricultural roots and heritage.
Mule Day/Chickenfest has become a staple event for the town of Gordo, which hosts the celebration each year as part of its ongoing efforts to bring the community together and highlight local culture.
Organizers encourage residents and visitors alike to attend and take part in the weekend’s activities, which offer a mix of entertainment, tradition, and small-town hospitality.
