Kay Ivey has awarded more than $4.5 million in Community Services Block Grants (CSBG) to community action agencies across Alabama, with a significant share of the funding directed to organizations serving West Alabama.
Announced February 4, 2026, the funding will support 18 community action agencies statewide that provide critical services aimed at reducing poverty and promoting long-term economic self-sufficiency. Eleven of the funded agencies serve counties in West Alabama, offering assistance that ranges from job training and financial education to emergency help with food and housing.
“These grants help ensure that families and individuals have access to resources that move them toward independence,” state officials said, emphasizing the program’s focus on empowering residents rather than offering short-term relief alone.
West Alabama Grant Recipients
Several agencies serving West Alabama are among the recipients:
Community Service Programs of West Alabama Inc., which serves Bibb, Choctaw, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa counties Walker County Community Action Agency Inc., awarded $64,617 to serve Walker County Community Action Partnership of North Alabama Inc., awarded $249,292 (with some regional allocations totaling $191,893) to serve Cullman, Lawrence, Marion, Morgan, and Winston counties Pickens County Community Action Committee and CDC Inc., awarded $20,883 to serve Pickens County
How the Funding Will Be Used
The CSBG funds are administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and are designed to provide what officials describe as a “hand up” for low-income residents. Funded programs focus on:
Employment support, helping individuals secure and maintain stable jobs Financial literacy, including budgeting and money-management skills Emergency assistance, such as help with food, housing, and health-related needs Barrier removal, addressing local obstacles that prevent families from becoming self-sufficient
State officials note that ADECA does not process individual applications for assistance. Residents in need are encouraged to contact their local community action agency directly. Contact information for each agency is available through the ADECA CSBG Interactive Map.
The investment underscores the state’s continued commitment to strengthening communities across West Alabama by supporting programs that address both immediate needs and long-term economic stability.
