Tuscaloosa residents interested in learning how to sew, completing a project or making a simple clothing repair have a free opportunity to get some hands-on help at the Tuscaloosa Public Library.
The Weaver Bolden Branch is hosting Sewing Lab sessions where adults can receive one-on-one instruction while learning to use the library’s sewing machines. No previous sewing experience is required.
Participants can bring a project they are already working on, get help with a simple repair or alteration, or learn by completing a small project. Examples include pot holders, grocery bag keepers and drawstring bags.
Materials are provided for lessons and simple projects. Those working on repairs or alterations that require replacement pieces should bring those items with them. The library also keeps a small supply of buttons, thread and snaps available for repairs.
The Sewing Lab is available to adults ages 18 and older. Sessions scheduled this week include Monday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 3 to 6 p.m., and Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. An Open Sewing Lab is also scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
For the instructional Sewing Lab, participants can reserve an hour-long time slot. Registration is required, and residents can call 205-758-8291 or stop by the Weaver Bolden Branch to reserve a spot.
