A local restaurant is stepping up to support families this summer by providing free lunches to school-age children throughout June and July.
Soul Out South Restaurant, located at 8204 Highway 69 South in Tuscaloosa, has announced its Free Summer Lunch Program, offering complimentary meals to children every Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning June 22, 2026, and continuing through July 27, 2026, while supplies last.
The initiative was inspired by owner reflections on the challenges many working parents face during the summer months when school meal programs are unavailable.
“I remember when my kids were smaller. Being a mom, working, and having a place to take them to eat lunch, like the schools and the Hughes Center, was a blessing at times,” said the restaurant owner. “Even when you had food at home, sometimes you just weren’t able to use it because you were tied up from working and didn’t feel like cooking. Those centers were a blessing to some, so with that being said, we at Soul Out want to give back. It’s not much, but I pray it helps.”
The program is open to all school-age children, and organizers emphasize that children must be present to receive a meal. The restaurant hopes the effort will help fill a critical need for families during the summer break while promoting community support and care.
“Together, we can make a difference in our community by ensuring our children have access to a nutritious meal during the summer,” the restaurant states in its announcement.
In addition to serving free meals, Soul Out South is welcoming community donations to help support the program and extend its impact throughout the summer.
