Residents in and around Livingston will have an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted electronics and hazardous household materials during the City of Livingston’s Annual Environmental Day.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Old Jail Site. The initiative is designed to help community members properly discard items that are not suitable for regular trash pickup, while promoting environmental responsibility and public safety.
The collection will include a wide range of electronic items, such as computers, laptops, tablets, printers, monitors, phones, chargers, cameras, and even microwaves. Other accepted items include cables, power strips, ink cartridges, and office equipment like scanners and copiers.
In addition to electronics, the event will also accept common household hazardous waste. This includes cleaning products, pesticides, automotive fluids, paints and thinners, sealants, degreasers, antifreeze, and aerosol cans. Tires and lead-acid car batteries will also be accepted.
However, organizers note that certain items will not be allowed. Prohibited materials include lithium and nickel batteries, pool chemicals, fertilizers, gas cylinders, propane tanks, mercury, and any medical or infectious waste.
City officials say the event is an important step toward keeping the community clean while reducing environmental risks associated with improper disposal. By offering a centralized drop-off location, the city aims to make it easier for residents to handle waste responsibly.
The event is made possible through a partnership with Waste Management, the City of Livingston, and the University of West Alabama.
Community members are encouraged to arrive early and take advantage of this free service as part of an ongoing effort to maintain a cleaner, safer Livingston.
